The Secrets To Rescheduling A Job Interview

by David Turner

There is no way you should ever use your pet as an excuse to reschedule an interview unless you are applying at a veterinary. Sometimes you can’t help the things that come up because they’re not in your control. If you have no other options you can reschedule.

As soon as you realize that there might be a problem, phone the company and ask to speak to the person you are scheduled to see. Explain briefly that there is a slight issue with the day or time of the interview and ask if it is possible to reschedule.

Unless it’s true and there’s no other choice do not use the work “emergency”. Do not give away more information then you have to and try to remain calm. If they can’t reschedule be honest with them if it’s not going to work out.

You don’t want to get caught in a lie about a fake emergency because you will ruin your credibility. If you say your sick and you can’t make it into the interview then you see your interviewer at the club your going to regret it.

If the problem arose just before you left for the interview, say for instance, car problems, try to find an alternate way to get there, but do not wait too long to make the phone call if you either cannot or will be running late. Do not wait until ten minutes before your scheduled interview time to call and say that your car broke down on the Interstate.

When you can’t find a way there or there is no other option call them to reschedule but let them know that it won’t happen again.

Even though you might want to go into the interview covered in motor oil from head to toe. You might look dedicated but you also might look unprofessional.

Remember, you cannot undo a bad first impression. The same holds for coming to an interview with an apparent illness. If you walk in coughing and sneezing the interview will remember you alright- with horror two days later when she comes down with the virus you brought to the interview.
